Ask WV's Congressional Delegation to Introduce Wilderness Legislation for the Mon! - Including Seneca Creek and East Fork of the Greenbrier!

Deadline: Jan 31, 2008

Details:

Please contact our Senators and your Representative about getting more wilderness designated in the Mon!

Congress will be considering Wilderness legislation in 2008 and you can have an impact on what it will look like! West Virginia Sierra Club members are encouraged to contact their members of Congress and ask for legislation to be introduced that includes Seneca Creek and East Fork Greenbrier. “Years of mapping and planning now lead us closer to bill introduction. It’s time to remind Congress that West Virginians want each of the 15 proposed areas to be considered,” says Dave Saville, coordinator of the West Virginia Wilderness Coalition.

West Virginia Sierra Club members Mary Wimmer, Michael Price, and Nate Parr recently traveled to Washington , D.C. , expressing their support for maximum amounts of Wilderness in meetings with Congressmen Nick Rahall and Alan Mollohan, in addition to staff meetings at the offices of Congresswoman Shelley Capito, Sen. Robert Byrd, and Sen. Jay Rockefeller.

Pro-Wilderness resolutions have recently been passed by cities and towns like Grafton, Morgantown , Montgomery , Weston, Nitro, White Hall, Nutter Fort and Matoaka. Recent Wilderness supporters also include over 130 Healthcare Professionals for Wilderness, the Fayette County Commission and the West Virginia AFL-CIO in addition to numerous state legislators

Your phone calls will make a significant impact. Simply ask your member of congress introduce legislation that would protect additional Wilderness areas on the Monongahela National Forest . Please mention the Seneca Creek and East Fork of Greenbrier areas, in addition to other areas you prefer. Citing personal reasons for wanting more Wilderness protections is also valuable.

Rep. Nick Joe Rahall II - (202) 225-3452, Rep. Alan Mollohan - (202) 225-4172, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito - (202) 225-2711,Sen. Robert C. Byrd - (202) 224-3954, Sen. Jay Rockefeller - (202) 224-6472
