In order to enjoy Wild, Wonderful West Virginia, on all outings we pack out all trash and leave pets, radios, tapeplayers and firearms at home.  Chapter policy also prohibits smoking in the presence of others during all Sierra Club activities.

The WVSC has trained, quality leaders to take you on trips into our state’s wild and wonderful places. Sign up for one of our outings and enjoy a day with like-minded conservationists.

To participate in an Outing: :
Call the Outing Leader for trip information such as level of difficulty, equipment needed, meal arrangements, meeting time and place, etc. 

If you see an outing that interests you, try to call the Leader at least one week in advance to sign up.  And please notify the Leader if you have to cancel your participation

Tibbet Knob to Big Schloss Day Hike, George Washington National Forest

rated strenuous – We will start on forest road 691 just outside Columbia Furnace, VA. From there we will hike to Wolf Gap campground then hike up to Big Schloss and back down. Although the hike is only 6 miles, it is rated strenuous as there is a lot of rock scrambling and several steep sections. Big Schloss is a large rock outcropping with beautiful views of the valley. Allow 3 1/2 hours.  Meet up location to be determined. Hike to start at 10am. To register contact trip leader.

Cooper’s Rock Spring Adopt-a-Trail Service Outing

rated easy - hiking and easy to moderate work intensity.  Join the fun with the spring trail clean-up along an easy 1.25 loop that includes the adopted .6 miles of the Intermediate Cross Country Ski Trail.  Besides general trail clearing, there will be much cleaning out and restoring drainage ditches and culverts clogged from the winter's mischief.   Volunteers should wear sturdy boots, and carry work gloves, water, snacks. Useful tools to bring are long handled pruners, rakes, and pointed shovels.   Adults and adolescents are invited to help and those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian.  Volunteers will be required to sign a standard Sierra Club Liability Waiver and a DNR Volunteer Work Program Agreement.  Please pre-register with the leader.

Arbor Day Hike- Birthplace of Rivers (BPOR)

            rated easy– Join us for a leisurely day hike in the area of the proposed Birthplace of the Rivers National Monument. We will meet at the Cranberry Visitors Center at 09:45 and will hike for 3 to 4 hrs.  During the hike we will celebrate the blossoming of trees and wildflowers of the region.  Bring snacks/lunch and water, and proper hiking shoes/boots and binoculars. Please pre-register with the leader, outing is limited to 10.
