Join us on our outings to explore our beautiful state. We have trained Outings Leaders to lead you on a great outdoor experience.

Anyone interested in becoming an Outings Leader please contact the Outings Chair Mike Price 304-400-8354  mikeprice54@suddenlink.net  or any Outings Leader.

Everyone must sign a Sierra Club Liability Waiver to attend an outing.

If you see an outing that interests you, try to call the Leader at least one week in advance to sign up.  And please notify the Leader if you have to cancel your participation

Sat.  April 23 - ADOPT- A -TRAIL SPRING CLEAN-UP AT COOPERS ROCK -  The WVSC will be leading a spring clean-up on the Intermediate Cross Country Ski Trail at Coopers Rock State Forest. Volunteers seeking community sevice are encouraged to participate. Moderate intensity work cleaning up the trail. Bring gloves, sturdy boots and lunch/water. Volunteers will be required to sign a Sierra Club liablity wavier and a DNR Volunteer Work Program Agreement. Sat. April 23- NEW RIVER GORGE - Moderate -  This hike is a Sierra Club hike celebrating the National Park Service's 100th Aniversary. This is a  6- 7 loop mile hike beginning at the Fayetteville Town Park and hike the trails out to Long Point and back.  Beautiful views of the New River Gorge and Bridge. Contact leader for details. Sat. April 30 - GEORGE WASHINGTON NATIONAL FOREST- Strenuous- This is a 10 mile hike which begins at the Wolf Gap Campground in VA. and will conclude at the Half Moon trailhead on Trout Run RD. in Wardensville, WV. We will hike to the top of Big Schloss. Please register by April 26th in order to arrange shuttles. Pack a lunch and plenty of water. SAT- MAY 7 -  BIG DRAFT WILDERNESS ( Blue Bend Recreation Area) - Moderate - 5 mile hike on the Blue Bend Trail ( this is on the Register of Historic places) this trail has some switchbacks asending uphill for about .6 mile. We will start at the Blue Bend Campground and hike the loop hike back. We can then hike the Anthony Creek Trail 3.8 miles down to the Greenbrier river. Sat- May 21 - PIPESTEM STATE PARK - MODERATE - 8 MILE HIKE ALONG THE BLUESTONE RIVER ON THE BLUESTONE RIVER TRAIL. WE WILL TAKE THE TRAM DOWN TO MCKEEVER LODGE AND HIKE DOWNRIVER TO BLUESTONE STATE PARK.THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL HIKE IN A REMOTE AREA OF THE BLUESTONE SCENIC RIVER. Sun - May 22 - HIGH ROCK - STRENUOUS- THE HIKE WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 6.5 MILES AND WILL TAKE ABOUT 3 1/2 HOURS. WE WILL LEAVE FROM RT. 491 IN SMITHSBURG, MD AND HIKE THE AT UP TO HIGH ROCK WHICH AFFORDS BEAUTIFUL VIIEWS OF THE VALLEY BELOW. DO NOT EXPECT TRANQUITIY AT THE TOP AS THERE IS ALSO A ROAD LEADING TO THE TOP. THIS IS CONSIDERED THE STEEPEST SECTION OF THE AT IN MARYLAND. PACK A LUNCH AND EAT AT THE TOP. JUNE 4 - SAT - CANAAN VALLEY WILDLIFE REFUGE - EASY/MODERATE - THIS IS A 7 MILE OUT AND BACK HIKE ON THE BROWN MOUNTAIN AND BROWN MOUTAIN OVERLOOK TRAILS. THE BROWN MOUTAIN TRAILS RUNS NORTH TO CAMP 70 ROAD PARKING LOT, THIS IS A PLEASANT TRAIL THROUGH THE FOREST WITH GENTLY INCREASING GRADE. THE TRAIL LEADS TO THE BROWN MTN. OVERLOOK THAT PROVIDES A BEAUTIFUL VIEWS OF THE CANAAN VALLEY'S WETLANDS. GREAT HABITAT FOR VIEWING BIRDS AND NATIVE PLANTS. DRESS FOR THE WEATHER, BRING DRINKING WATER, WEAR STURDY FOOTWEAR, SNACK/LUNCH. JUNE 11 - Sat - CRANBERRY BACKCOUNTRY - MODERATE - 16 MILE BIKE TRIP ALONG THE CRANBERRY RIVER. WE WILL START AT CRANBERRY GLADES AND BIKE TO THE CRANBERRY CAMPGROUND. WE WILL SHUTTLE BETWEEN THESE TWO POINTS. THIS IS IN THE PROPOSED  BIRTHPLACE OF RIVERS NATIONAL MONUMENT. JUNE 22 - 25 - VETERANS OUTING - BIRTHPLACE OF RIVERS - THIS OUTING IS FOR VETERANS AND WILL BE IN THE PROPOSED BIRTHPLACE OF RIVERS NATIONAL MONUMENT. THERE ARE PLENTY OF SHORT HILLS AND A NICE VIEW OF THE VALLEY FROM THE SOUTH VALLEY OVERLOOK.  ALLOW 3 HOUR FOR THIS HIKE.
