The Never-ending story of Longview Power Plant
The West Virginia Public Service Commission granted a Certificate of Site Approval to the Longview Power plant, proposed for Morgantown, and project developers announced they would begin construction within a few months. But an appeal to the WV Supreme Court by local opponents has again delayed the project. The appeal, filed on behalf of local citizens and organizations, claims that the PSC violated state law by disregarding evidence, and by issuing findings unsupported by evidence.
The PSC adopted a draft Order prepared by Longview, in essence allowing Longview to write their own permit. The PSC made only minor changes to The Longview Order, and ignored contradictory testimony. If the appeal is heard by the Supreme Court, the project may be delayed for months, and the Siting Certificate may be overturned.
