Join the Coalition and help clean up the air in the Mon Valley!
The Mon Valley Clean Air Coalition (MVCAC) is active to promote air quality in the Monongalia County region of northern West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania. Of major concern are particulate pollutants and greenhouse gases.
The immediate health effects are manifest as asthma and other lung and heart diseases; the long term impacts of carbon dioxide and methane are global warming with its diverse effects on climate and biological processes.
Immediate and continuing attention is necessary in support of the scrubbers on the Ft. Martin power plant, control of the noise and effluents of the proposed Longview power plant, as well as the very significant air degradation from the proposed gob coal burner for Greene County, Pennsylvania.
There are two websites where you can go for further information:
Citizens for Alternatives to Longview maintains an excellent resource at www.nolongview.org.
Mon Valley Clean Airs website is www.monvalleycleanair.org.
We would really love to be able to have portable air monitors to take to different locations in the county and to use for teaching students.
You can help by contacting any of the MVCAC Board Members and mailing your name, address and phone number to: MVCAC, Attn: Cindy OBrien, Treasurer, Box 4679, Morgantown, WV 26504-4679.
The MVCAC Board Members are: Duane Nichols, Bill Wonderlin, Linda Shuster, Jim Kotcon, and Paula Hunt.
