by Nate Parr | 2007

We have a NEW Outings Chair and now he needs some new Outings Leaders, and suggestions for great outing locations and activities.

Greetings from the western side of the state. My name is Nate Parr from Vienna, and last year I was the Conservation Chair, a position I enjoyed, only to discover that the position required more time and involvement than I could afford while maintaining a required full time employment.

As a native West Virginian, my greatest concerns are in wilderness and conservation along with interests in hiking, canoeing and biking. As luckwould have it, I am able to combine both interests because the Outing Chair position was vacant so I quickly volunteered. Having that been said, my new goal is to take the WV Sierra Club outings program and make it one of the most active, informative, diverse and fun in the state.

I also understand that this lofty goal can’t be attained without the help and participation of the WV Club members. I know there are many, many members in the club that share my love of the outdoors. We need to get together so we can form a core committee to schedule, lead and  participate in the outings. Once we get a group of folks and find a common place to meet, we will collect all the ideas and desires of the members and then design an outing calendar that best reflects our memberships interest.

The first step is to take action and volunteer for the outings team. Please send me a message so I can contact you and learn about your ideas and areas of expertise. I will then contact you with additional information about the outings program and how your talents are needed. For immediate information check the web at Sierra Club Outings | Outings Main (http://www.sierraclub.org/outings/).

I can be contacted at: carve@wirefire.com, or via snail mail at 5509 Sixth Ave., Vienna, WV 26105, or by phone at 304-295-7675 or304-488-4047. I will be looking forward to talking with you and sharing some stories.
