The State Legislature is in session and E-Day is March 2nd!
As we approach the mid-point in the 78th Legislative Session our E-Council lobby team is fully staffed and in high gear. Our four professional lobbyists are Don Garvin, Denise Poole, J. B. Christensen and Dennis Cunningham. In addition, weve had the biggest citizen turnout Ive ever seen during a legislative session. Citizens are coming from the coalfields every Tuesday to speak to their representatives on behalf of the Sludge Safety Project Study Resolution. Weve had citizens action days on Clean Elections and the Bottle Bill with participation from all parts of the state. (I was happy to see six Sierra Student Coalition members at our Bottle Bill press conference and lobby day last Thursday.)
The West Virginia Environmental Council represents many of the environmental organizations in the state. E-Council is supported by contributions from the WV Chapter of Sierra Club and others such as WV Highlands Conservancy, OVEC, WV Rivers Coalition, and Trout Unlimited, Mountaineer Chapter. In addition E-Council is supported by individual memberships.
Please check out the E-Council website at www.wvecouncil.org to see the Green Legislative Update which is posted every Friday (to bring you up to date on news of the past week). Check out the Action Alerts. Theres information posted on the March 2 E-Day at the Capitol. Approximately 30 environmental organizations and sustainable businesses will be represented with displays. This is YOUR day at the Capitol.
In order to get the latest news during the legislative session, check the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition website at www.ohvec.org. Every morning OVEC checks scores of news sources and posts links to make it easier for you to stay informed. To track bills and contact your legislators, go to out www.legis.state.wv.us.
See you at E-Day on March 2nd.
