See MTR Coal Mining up close and personal this summer!
You can’t really appreciate the scope and impact of the destruction wrought by Mountaintop Removal coal mining unless you’ve seen it for yourself. Have you seen it? If the answer is no, this summer you can take a look up close and personal with a Mountaintop Removal Tour.
It’s not really a tour, it’s more like a site visit. Keeper of the Mountains Larry Gibson will lead us. Larry will give us a first-hand look at the devastation in and around Kayford Mountain, where the mountain landscape has been transformed into a moonscape. We’ll see how the mountains have been destroyed utterly, and Larry will guide us to understand the personal and societal damage that goes hand-in-hand with Mountaintop Removal.
We run three tours this summer (dates below). If you want - or need - to see Mountaintop Removal, come and join us. We will travel by 7-passenger minivan, picking up passengers in the Morgantown and Charleston areas. These are long day trips, and we return home the same day. You’ll bring lunch and water, and wear walking shoes. Contact Jim Sconyers at 603.969.6712 or firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a space.
