Fishing pier in Canaan Valley will help the handicapped enjoy a great American past-time!
Past-Chapter Chair Paul Wilson received funding approval from the Club’s Hunter/Angler Program to build a handicapped accessible fishing pier on the Blackwater River in the Canaan Valley NWR.

The site is a popular fishing spot where Timberline Road passes over the Blackwater River in the Refuge. It is also a location where the West Virginia DNR does some stocking of catchable-size trout.
Construction will take place in August and September of this year with a dedication ceremony in September or October. The Chapter is partnered with Friends of the 500th and West Virginia Chapter #8 of Disabled American Veterans for this project. There is also pending participation with Wheeling Sportsmen and Trout Unlimited.

The grant covers reimbursement for food and mileage (at 25 cents/mile) for volunteers. The Fish and Wildlife Service is providing lodging for construction volunteers as well as some construction materials for the boardwalk that will lead to the fishing pier.
If you are interested in assisting with the construction, please contact Paul Wilson (304-725-4360, pjgrunt@gmail.com ).
