Over 2000 anti-coal activists march in Washington
A group of WV Sierra Club and OVEC members traveled together to the Appalachia Rising Conference and Protest March in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 26 and 27. The group attended several activities held on the campus of Georgetown University on Sunday evening.
On Monday morning, activists from mountain communities in West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and Vermont, and young people from all over the United States gathered in Freedom Plaza to raise our voices together in protest of Mountain Top Removal (MTR) mining. Around two thousand protesters walked together around the offices of the EPA, ending the day in Lafayette Park near the back of the White House.
